Kansas City, Mo hosted the 2012 Major League Baseball Game, Tuesday night July 10, 2012. Moments before the first pitch, Matt Kemp took to twitter typing, “1st player 2 ever tweet during the 2012 #ASG!!!” Owning the American League right out of the dugout, the National League rocked Justin Verlander and was up 5-0 at the bottom of the 1st inning. With a lead off single by Derek Jeter, it appeared as if the AL would have a chance to score a run or two. Strike outs followed, leaving Jeter stranded on 1st base. In the top of the 4th, Rafael Furcal hit a triple and Matt Holliday followed up with an RBI pushing the score 6-0. Minutes later, Melky Cabrera knocked out a homer. Trotting to home plate, he scored the 8th run for the NL. The AL didn’t catch a break. Ryan Braun cranked a line drive down the first base line for yet another triple for the NL. Joey Votto grounded out to Robinson Cano, which finally put an end to the destruction. The top of the 6th was the final All-Star at bat for Chipper Jones, where he grounded a base hit. Jones is set to retire at the end of the season. The game was a shoo-in, once the 9th inning approached. The final score was 8-0 NL, with Melky Cabrera the 2012 All-Star MVP. The race to the World Series continues, as the second half of the season begins.
