LeBron James and the Miami Heat, NBA Champions 2012

On June 21, 2012, the Miami Heat defeated the Oklahoma Thunder in game five of the NBA finals which resulted in the 2012 Championship.  Behind 1-3 in the series, the Thunder ran into difficulty slowing down LeBron James and the Heat.  The only thunder that was experienced from the arena in South Beach was generated from the electrifying fans within the stands.  In the 4th, with just a little over eleven minutes left to play, Mike Miller hit his 7th three pointer that placed the heat ahead by 24 points placing the score at 101-77.   The Thunder’s chance at staying alive in the series began to fade, along with their hope of winning the 2012 title despite their continuing to play hard.  The starters for both teams left the game with 3:01 on the clock in the 4th quarter with the score 96-118.  As the time dwindled, the excitement from the crowd was magnified by the celebration of the Heat players on the sideline as they danced, hugged, and congratulated each other on their victory.  The final score was 121-106.  LeBron James closed out with triple-doubles and was awarded MVP.

*Juwan Howard of the Miami Heat is the only member of the University of Michigan’s Fab Five to win an NBA Championship.
